rainboots

This is one of my favorite poems that I've written this year in Creative Writing! I began by describing a picture of a young boy, looking angry in his overalls. I was experiencing writer's block when I noticed his muddy rainboots, and those rainboots inspired this poem. I wanted it to have a very descriptive feel.

Rainboots

splattered with mud of all four seasons,

never taken off, no matter how mother pleaded;

a perfect day was spent chasing frogs,

through the mud of bogs and through the fog;

stuffed into a turtleneck and overalls

he looks out from the mantlepiece of the hall,

petulant and impudent and insolent

dreaming of all the free frogs in nature infinite.

  1. Beautiful imagery! You really captured the beauty of youth and innocence. I like how you gave a visual too.
